It’s never easy to hear that the company you work for has been acquired. I’ve been on the other side of this process several times in the past, but after a great twenty-one years with The Hightower Agency, I found myself facing a much different perspective when I learned of the decision to transition our agency to Ramsey MediaWorks. What started as fear turned into interest and quickly into excitement as more details became apparent and a few conversations were shared.
I have known Todd and Garrett Ramsey for over a decade. We have spent plenty of time both in deer camps and shared phone calls since we first met. I have also known several of RMW’s other team members. I knew the cultures of our two companies were very similar. I knew both agencies were customer-focused. While it was sad to think of leaving behind the Hightower name, I knew this was a great opportunity for me and several members of our team.
In speaking with our customers to let them know of the acquisition and our goals, it was very humbling to hear their support and commitment to join us at RMW repeated from one phone call to the next. We were thrilled to learn that every customer was making the transition with us! Not only will we continue to take care of them as we have in the past, but each will gain the advantage of new tools and a larger support team as we continue to move through this transition.
Now that the dust has settled on our first month, I look back and realize how quickly it went. Whew! But I also continue to learn more about the opportunities our customers have available to them. I fully expected the RMW team to take care of our customers, but I did not realize how far they would exceed my expectations. As mentioned at the start, an acquisition is not usually a fun experience. Nonetheless, this has truly become a very positive development in my career.
